Eredi Vittorio Boschis

Barolo, Piemonte

The name, meaning Heirs of Vittorio Boschis, is a dedication to Federico Scarzello’s maternal grandfather, who lived to the age of 94, a classic farmer of the Langhe known to so many as a jovial wit and devoted friend. Farming 2 hectares (5 acres) in the Paiagallo and Boschetti MGAs, Vittorio sold his grapes to friends and would occasionally ask back a little wine that he would then age in wood. He would present these few bottles with pride--in fact, a few years ago, Federico’s cousin tidied up the cellar and found some bottles hand-labeled “1905 Barolo of grandfather Vittorio.”

For the great regard earned by Federico Scarzello’s wine in the world, this limited production wine gives the nod of respect to Vittorio, vinified in a traditional way in the heart of Barolo village. Federico explains that this bottling is a way to honor that farmer from Barolo who never traveled away from his village. To see it go out into the word is to hope that the cheerful, convivial Vittorio would be proud.
